Ideally, you should be looking six months ahead to be cake-guaranteed for your wedding date.  Often three to four months is enough to secure your date, but some times of the year are more popular.

If you are not entirely sure what type of cake you want, you can still secure your date by sending a deposit. This will give you plenty of time to decide, safe in the knowledge that your wedding date has been booked.
